Assumptions

Why do we automatically assume that people around us are not Christians? Is it really based upon our astute knowledge of statistical inquiry? What would we do if everyone around us were really a Christian? We say this is our goal, but how woud this practically change our daily lives? Maybe it would be helpful to all involved if we treated others as if they were members of our faith, rather than a subtle adoption of an us-verses-them attitude. Sure, we may not be able to share the deepest stuggles of our spiritual journey, for fear of a lack of understanding or positive affirmation, but perhaps we might gain a larger appreciation for the way the human experience cries out for the divine. Might not a more persuasive presentation of the Gospel start, not from an automatic assumption of the other person's sinfulness, but rather from a compelling love and attractive lifestyle of connection with something larger and stronger than Monday morning runs to the super market? Don't people live up to our lowest expectations?
