I get really annoyed at Christians who feel they have to have a neat and tidy answer for everything God does, like somehow God depends on them for his PR. For Instance why do many Christians so easily state that God is either judging the Tsunami victims or he is trying to effect more salvations as a result of this tragedy. How do we know that? Even if we can say with some certainty that God does bring judgement and that he does use tragedy to bring people nearer to himself, is this at all a helpful answer to a tsunami victim's intense personal loss? Doesn't this make God out to be a malevolent macchivelli sort of figure rather than the compassionate comforter people need right now? Equally as annoying is the question non-believers ask of how a good God could let this sort of tragedy happen. This shows an equally arrogant attitude about human understanding of God, and his power and goodness. If there is some belief in an absolute power what is to say that humans can grasp or even embrace his ways?
Why are we so uncomfortable with mystery?
